Sprinten is back at Kia Fjällmaraton! Don’t miss this crowd-pleasing, high-octane, mega lactate fest on Thursday afternoon.

You’ll have to qualify first in the afternoon with an individual time trial to make it through to the semi finals and then ultimately the final. The family-friendly Ottsjö 8K by ICA Åre starts at 18:00 with a huge prize lottery afterwards, so expect lots of support throughout your sprint.

Food will be served all evening – and free for participants – from Undersåkers Charkuterie, plus beer from the Erdinger bar.

Thanks to our 8K partner, ICA Åre, there will be free bus transfers running between Åre and Ottsjö from midday until the evening.

Sprinten – how it works:
– same concept as cross-country ski sprints.
– Qualification sprints at 17:00, seeing the 16 quickest times progress to the next round.
– Two out of each four in the next round of heats will make it through to the final.

Prize money:
First women 3000 SEK
First man 3000 SEK

Partners

It’s no secret that Fjällmaraton is a big advocate of the outdoors. We have to be. After all, we live and work in the Swedish mountains. And where we run? Beautiful, runnable trails that let us embrace the conditions without putting a physical toll on the planet.

Since our inception in 2005, sustainability has been a central theme to us at Fjällmaraton. From the minimarathon created especially for kids through to the 100K race, every decision made by our tight-knit, committed team is carefully considered when it comes to sustainability.

This same mindset applies to our partners, each of which brings their own special something to our events.

Kia Sweden

Kia have a clear vision of sustainable mobility and this suits us down to a tee. Kia Fjälltransfer is an important pillar of our summer – this sees us using a fleet of electric Kia cars to transport athletes around the mountain, whether pre- or post-event. We also arrange test drives of brand-new electric vehicles.

Jämtkraft

Jämtkraft – a locally based energy company – have chosen to extract energy from forest residues and recycled wood. This chimes perfectly with our vision of being local and renewable.

www.jamtkraft.se

Salomon

The runner’s choice. We’re exceptionally proud to have one of the sport’s most trend-setting brands as a long-term partner. Salomon 27K has become an icon.

www.salomon.com

Peak Performance

The Peak Performance Vertical K has a special place in the Fjällmaraton family. We designed and built the course ten years ago, making Sweden’s first-ever Vertical Kilometre that just so happens to start outside Peak Performance’s brand store.

As a brand, Peak Performance choose to play on the mountainside all year round.

www.peakperformance.com

Umara

We love long-term collaborations. For 2023, UMARA will be the official nutrition partner at all our feed stations for the tenth year running.

Buff

According to Buff, the best experiences happen outdoors. We couldn’t agree more. Buff is the partner of our epic 100K race, which will provide no shortage of great memories.

Fjällmaraton is extremely proud to have a long history of organising races where equality is always in focus.

We are now really excited to commit to sheRaces, an organisation that promote better conditions for female participants at running races. We plan on learning a lot from them.

Our aim is to always be in full accordance with their guidelines, which you can view here.

All the Fjällmaraton feels condensed into 12K: Ottsjö 12K offers a gorgeous, memorable mini-mountain marathon on the same day as its bigger siblings: Salomon 27K or the Kia 45K.

But at 12 kilometres with 300 metres of climbing, Ottsjö is still no walk in the park—it’s a great challenge for short distance runners, newer trail runners, those returning to the sport, or those who are building up to our bigger distances.

Starting in Ottsjö, you’ll head up Petterfjället and past Klapphögarnas wind shelter before the flat trail across Platåkåtan. From here, you’ll drop down, join some beautiful single track and trace the edge of the lake back to where you started.

Run with your kids

Now a popular aspect of this race, we introduced the opportunity for kids aged 10-13 to participate alongside an adult for just 200kr.

The minimum age for entry remains 14 if running independently. Note that 14–18 year olds can enter for half the price of an adult.

Sweden’s most authentic and prestigious mountain marathon! It’s time for the 22nd edition of a race that began in 2005 with a loop of the classic Jämtlandstriangeln.

For 2026, we aim to take the race over Ottfjället along our signature Fjällmaraton trail. We’ll update the website, race map, and more information on the feed stations and cut-off times as soon as this is confirmed! For the moment, you’ll find us in a lengthy dialogue with the regional land council – wish us luck.

Whether you’re a seasoned mountain and trail runner or a fresh-faced newbie, if you are keen to experience something outside of the ordinary and love new sights on your runs, you’re welcome on the startline of our Kia 45K for a genuine challenge.

To get one of our famous wooden medals, you’ve got to run under “medaljtiden”, which is the winner’s time plus 30%.

Feed stations

All participants must be self-sufficient throughout the race. This means carrying your own water, refilling at feed stations, or finding natural streams. Support is not permitted along the route – only at the official feed stations.

Umara is the official hydration drink that you’ll find at all our feed stations: 2:1 lemon, with a mixture of 120g/l.

You’ll find water and toilets at the start in Trillevallen.

Here’s a list of the food and water stations on the course:

Edsåsdalen 1 – 12 km
Water, sports drink, bars (Umara), bananas, buns

Edsåsdalen 2 – 25 km

With 27k of pure mountain poetry (“Fjällpoesi”), three mountain tops, and a gorgeous finish area in Ottsjö, this race is widely regarded as one of Sweden’s most beautiful trail races.

WELCOME TO THE WEEK-LONG FJÄLLMARATON – AN 8-DAY MOUNTAIN RUNNING FESTIVAL

Since we started in 2005 with just 60 participants, Kia Fjällmaraton Årefjällen has grown into a whole week of events, best known as “Fjällmaratonveckan” including 8 races and 3,000 participants.

Now we’re looking ahead to 2026 and if all goes to plan,. the long-awaited return of our main race – Kia 45K – taking on our signature trail over Ottfjället.

Which distance/s will you sign up for? There’s something for all the family.

Entering early supports us with our trail maintenance and restoration work that we complete throughout the year on trails that we take it upon ourselves to look after.

TRANSFERS TO START

Information on transfer to/from the starts and finishes of our races – as well as the booking form for the transfer buses – can be found in the respective race day memos.

TRANSFERS FROM THE FINISH

Kia Fjälltransfer provides free transfers in our fleet of electric Kia cars. You’ll find this free service on the roadside above the finish area and you can catch a lift to the car park in Trillevallen or to a parked car further away in Ottsjö.

The cars will depart as they fill.

In the afternoons on the main race days, there’ll be a Kia Fjälltransfer bus service every half an hour to Undersåker and Åre.

Sweden's most laidback fjällmaraton

Following either a 24 km or 42 km route across mountains on two clearly marked point-to-point routes, runners and speed hikers have the opportunity to enjoy the rugged Swedish landscape and its amazing local cuisine. This non-competitive event is a ‘feast on the fjälls’, seeing its feed stations (roughly every 7km) stocked with local foods from artisan producers, cooked and served on the mountainside. With the help of Lena Flaten, famous for her restaurant Flammans Skafferi in nearby Storlien, the menu on offer will give a wider insight into the nature that is in abundance in the part of the Swedish north.

With an open start time, you can enjoy the experience to the max without feeling any time pressure.

If you’re planning to hike slowly, however, we recommend starting early.

For 2026, we’ve designed new routes, with the longer one starting and finishing in Ottsjö, and the shorter one starting in Trillevallen and finishing in Ottsjö.
